followed by discussion about the situation in atenco,
the otra campaña zapatista & its significance here in the US,
& a chance for folks to dialogue about the may 1st events
One year ago, on may 3rd and 4th, 2006 the mexican city of san salvador atenco was the site of brutal repression by thousands of federal police forces against the local community as well as members of the otra campaña zapatista. the horrific violence included the murder of two young men, rampant police brutality, arbitrary detentions, random raids of private homes, acts of torture, and sexual assault against dozens of women. one year later, 29 political prisoners remain incarcerated at the santiaguito prison, and justice has not been served...
