En los últimos meses, ICE (el Servicio de Inmigración y Control de Aduanas) ha aumentado sus redadas en sitios de trabajo, en el área de la bahia y por todo el país – deteniendo y deportando a miles de hombres y mujeres por el supuesto delito de trabajar para mantener a sus familias.
Los sindicatos estan enfrentando el desafío de responder a las preguntas y preocupaciones de sus miembros, ayudarles a defender a sus compañeros, y construir un movimiento político que pueda parar estos ataques a la gente trabajadora.
Este taller enseñará:
- Entrenar a los trabajadores a afirmar sus derechos con los agentes de inmigración.
- Preparar a los representantes sindicales y otros líderes a apoyar a los demás trabajadores durante una redada

In the past few months, ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) has been stepping up workplace raids in the Bay Area and around the country - imprisoning and deporting thousands of men and women for the “crime” of working to support their families. Unions are faced with the challenge of addressing members’ questions and fears, helping them stand up for each other effectively, and building a political response that can end these attacks on working people.
This workshop will address:
- Training workers to assert their rights when dealing with immigration agents
- Preparing shop stewards and leaders to support other workers during a raid
- Responding to raids: running safe and effective rapid response protests,accessing legal and social services, advocating for detained workers.
[May 27] STOP THE RAIDS AND DEPORTATIONS!
On May 2, 63 immigrant workers from El Balazo Taquerias were raided and detained by ICE. Yesterday, 17 people were rounded up at their homes by ICE in San Rafael. Enough is enough!
Please join immigrant rights groups, Labor, faith-based groups and many others for a press conference and rally to denounce the Bay Area raids, and to support the taqueria workers on the day of their court hearing!

Chicanas de Oakland, inspirado por su niñezes en dos comunidades y por

Fundraiser for Pro-Immigrant US-Mexico Border Trip
A fundraising dinner and film, sponsored by the Task Force on the Americas, will be held on Friday, March 28, to help finance a five-member Marin delegation going to investigate conditions at the US-Mexico border. The event will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 9 Ross Valley Drive, San Rafael. The venue is wheelchair accessible.
Dinner is at 6 PM followed by remarks from community members and the showing of the documentary Morristown. This film tells how US workers are faced with the costs of NAFTA and globalization. Their factory is closed down and shipped to Mexico; but instead of folding up, the workers from eastern Tennessee join with Mexican workers to unionize and fight for they rights.
Two of the trip's delegates are Task Force board members, and all five are members of the Marin Immigrant Rights Coalition. For the last two months the team has been videotaping interviews with Canal-area immigrants who explain their reasons for coming to the U.S. and the struggles they continue to face.
