[Mar 16] Book Party for Emory Douglas

Emory Douglas will appear at 6pm on Friday, March 16th at the EastSide Cultural Center, located at 2277 International Blvd./ 23rd Av. in Oakland, California, to present a slide presentation of his prolific work and to sign books which will be for sale on the day of the book party.

The EastSide Arts Alliance presents a Book Party for the recent publication of
Black Panther—The Revolutionary Art of Emory Douglas, which chronicles the graphic art reflecting a critical period of political rebellion in contemporary U.S. history. This is the first ever book of this kind, and it is amazing.

As Minister of Culture of the Black Panther Party, Emory Douglas created a multitude of incisive political graphics and cartoons for The Black Panther newspaper in the 1960s and 70s. This first monograph of Emory's work, published by Rizzoli International Publications, features contributions by Bobby Seale, Kathleen Cleaver, Amiri Baraka, Sonia Sanchez, Malaquias Montoya and more. The free community event is sponsored by EastSide Arts Alliance, a grassroots Third World cultural organization, which includes all of the above mentioned, including Emory, as Advisory Board members.
